A full college education cannot exist within the walls of a classroom alone. That’s why we encourage and support students who decide to pursue nationally competitive fellowships. The Office of Fellowships is dedicated to helping students identify and apply for opportunities they feel will most benefit them both during and after their time at W&L.
What is a fellowship?
Nationally competitive fellowships are prestigious external funding opportunities that can support students as they study abroad, pursue independent research, apply to graduate school and do so much more.
Who can apply for a fellowship?
Students of any major, class year or citizenship status are eligible to apply. Though some fellowships will be restricted to students who meet certain eligibility requirements, no matter who you are, there’s something out there for you.
Why should I apply?
While receiving a nationally competitive fellowships can provide you valuable financial support, money and prestige aren’t everything. Assembling a fellowship application can also help you reflect on and refine your intellectual, academic and professional goals and interests.
How do I apply?
Students are encouraged to make an appointment in Handshake with Dr. Matthew Loar (Director of Fellowships and Student Research) or Prof. Dallas Tatman (Assistant Director of Fellowships) to learn more about fellowship opportunities, application processes and relevant deadlines.
